. ~ :: During recent months members of the Tropical Forest Research Center staff have travelled to many of the countries of the Caribbean area. The purposes of these -t!'ips have been to see trees, forests, and silvicultural and utilization practices that might be useful in Puerto Rico, to collect data on forest plantations for the Latin American Forestry Commission ofF AO, and to obtain infonnation of value to the forestry training program of the Center, set up to ~rve this area through the cooperation of the International Cooperation Administration. Forest management work and plantations were studied in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Ecuador, the lower Amazon Valley of Brazil, Surinam, British Guiana, Trinidad, St. Lucia, Martinique, and Jamaica. Forest utilization was observed ' in Trinidad, British ,Guiana, and Surinam.
